In response to the disaster in Haiti, Shalom School is donating Tzedakah money to the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC). Our upper grade students have decorated shopping tote bags to thank each family donating $10 or more to the relief effort. The reusuable bags say "My Heart is With Haiti." Within two days students have raised over $1,100, and within the first week, over $2,000, and as of March 1st, over $5,000!

“From Torah to Israel” Shalom School’s Biblical Mural Project, was dedicated at a special ceremony and public unveiling on Thursday, May 5th at 6:00 pm. The dedication event was the culmination of an integrated Artist-in-Residence experience which included hours of student, staff, parent, and community participation under the guidance of acclaimed artists, Donna Billick. Ceramic and tile representations of the Twelve Tribes and the Seven Species outlined in the Torah will adorn a 60’ curved wall at the School’s entry drive. The entire mural is framed by two olive trees representing the Eytz Chaim (Tree of Life), bringing to life a sefer Torah of stone and clay that will stand indefinitely calling to all who see it, “bless your people, Israel, and the land You pledged to our ancestors—a land flowing with milk and honey.” (Deuteronomy 26:15) Shalom School is privileged to be the recipient of a multi-year grant focusing on Israel Education and Engagement from the Jim Joseph Foundation enabling the School to commit to this project last spring. "What you do sets you apart! Dr. Barbara Nemko and Jayna Gaskell visited Shalom School on March 30th for a mid-term review for our six year Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) accreditation. They met with students, staff, teachers, alumni, parents and board members. They were "amazed at the projects the kids are doing and that we deal with every part of the child, not what public schools are limited to. This is what school is supposed to be!"
On Friday morning, December 18th Shalom School dedicated an historical Torah from Prestice, Czechoslovakia generously and compassionately procured by Dr. Marvin and Linda Kamras, founders of our School. The Memorial Scrolls Trust in London, England, worked with the Kamrases to have the Torah on permanent loan at our School. The community came to help celebrate this very special day. Our annual Chanukah performances by our students also took place during this celebration event. Please see Torah Dedication pictures in the "Photogallery" under "About Shalom School" on this website. More to come!
